Arthur Simony was born in 1985. He lives and works in Paris. After studying fashion design in Belgium, he created his first participative installation in Paris in 2002, titled “Life Hangs by a Thread”. The word “life” was suspended by strings attached to the branches of a tree. He repeated this performance in 2012, on Rue Pavée in the 4th district and then at the Grand Palais as part of the group exhibition “The Beautiful Escape”.
That same year, he created “Reaching for the Stars” at venue 37, in the 10th district gallery. With the help of a stepladder, the public was invited to take down the word “star” suspended from the ceiling.
Later, on the Pont des Arts, he installed over eight hundred keys onto padlocks with the idea of freeing love.
Subsequently, he paid tribute to Francis Ponge by transcribing the poem “The Pebble” onto the pebbles of Étretat beach.
In 2011, his character Jeanne – referencing the artist Jeanne Hébuterne, model and wife of Modigliani – appeared in the streets of the capital. Since then, he has tirelessly reproduced her, with the precision of a monk copying manuscripts, on various mediums, while slightly varying her features.
From 2014, he became interested in mantras and ho’oponopono, a path towards consciousness and peace within and around oneself. He created totems (“sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you”) and drawings (“love”, “life is beautiful”, and “thank you, mom”). Through this work, where words are rhythmically repeated, Arthur Simony guides us towards a harmonious and constructive state of being and thinking.
The Spirals, Poetries, and Prayers, Protections created more recently are simple and elegant works that free the spirit and reflect a mature reflection on writing as an ascetic practice and the power of words.
Arthur Simony chooses a word, a poem, or a prayer, whether existing or of his own invention, and places it on the canvas in his unique style.
He lets the ink flow with the writing or, conversely, focuses on the precision of the line. The black letters that form the work are often highlighted with bright colors that correspond with each other. They are so close together that the text, as a whole, forms a design with vibratory virtues. The composed painting is filled with sensitivity and positive energy, producing a radiant effect on the observer.
Arthur Simony’s art is beneficial both for the creator and the viewer.
Arthur Simony has exhibited his work in Clichy (Lepeuve), Paris (Yia, Galerie Médicis, and POS), Brussels (Yia), Geneva (The Artmonist festival), and Courchevel.
In 2020, he became interested in digital art and NFTs. He participated in ETHcc 2020, where he presented a code to decipher in one of his digital works, containing the private key to a wallet with 3 ETH.
In 2021, the cryptojeannes arrived on Ethereum and Solana. In 2024, he ventured into Ordinals with the Bitcoin Jeanne.
Arthur Simony est né en 1985. Il vit et travaille à Paris. Après des études de stylisme en Belgique, il crée, en 2002, à Paris, sa première installation participative « la vie ne tient qu’à un fil ». Le mot « vie » est suspendu par des ficelles accrochées aux branches d’un arbre. Il répétera cette performance en 2012, rue Pavée dans le 4ème arrondissement puis au Grand Palais dans le cadre de l’exposition collective L’échappée belle.
La même année, il réalise « Décrocher les étoiles » au lieu 37, galerie du 10e arrondissement. À l’aide d’un escabeau, le public est invité à décrocher le mot « étoile » suspendu au plafond.
Puis, sur le pont des arts, il installe plus de huit cents clés aux cadenas dans l’idée de libérer l’amour.
Par la suite, il rend hommage à Francis Ponge, dont il transcrit le poème « le galet » sur les galets de la plage d’Étretat.
C’est en 2011 qu’apparaît, dans les rues de la capitale, son personnage, Jeanne – en référence à l’artiste Jeanne Hébuterne, modèle et femme de Modigliani. Depuis, il la reproduit, inlassablement, avec la rigueur d’un moine copiste, sur différents supports, tout en variant ses traits de manière infime.
Dès 2014, il s’intéresse aux mantras et à l’ho’oponopono, chemin vers la conscience et la paix en et autour de soi. Il réalise des totems (« désolé, pardon, merci, je t’aime ») et des dessins (« amour », « la vie est belle » et « merci maman »). Par ce travail, où les mots se répètent avec rythme, Arthur Simony nous guide vers un état d’être et de penser harmonieux et constructif.
Les Spirales, Poésies et Prières, Protections réalisées plus récemment sont des œuvres simples et élégantes qui libèrent l’esprit et témoignent d’une réflexion aboutie sur l’écriture comme ascèse et le pouvoir des mots.
Arthur Simony choisit un mot, un poème ou une prière existante ou qu’il invente, et l’appose sur la toile avec un style bien à lui.
Il laisse couler l’encre au fil de l’écriture ou, au contraire, s’attache à la précision du trait. Les lettres noires formant l’œuvre sont souvent rehaussées de couleurs vives qui se répondent. Elles sont si rapprochées les unes des autres que le texte, dans son ensemble, forme un dessin aux vertus vibratoires. Le tableau ainsi composé est chargé de sensibilité et d’énergie positive. Il produit, sur l’observateur, un effet irradiant.
L’art d’Arthur Simony fait du bien à celui qui le pratique comme à celui qui le regarde.
